Doctor’s orders, just in. Hawk-eye the red-tailed hawk had a doctors appointment this morning. We got to watch the doctor trim the hawks beak, talons, and give it a worms shot. First they got the hawk out of the crate and wrapped it up in a towel so it wouldn’t squirm. Then they got out the nifty toenail clippers and clipped the birds talons. After that they moved on to the beak. They said the birds would automatically grind down the beak and talons in the wild but since they are in captivity this process doesn’t happen. So any way they trimmed the beak and it looked a little out of place so Doc ground down the beak to make it look natural. After that was done they gave him a shot for worms.
